MOSCOW/TASHKENT. Oct 31 (Interfax) - Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed bilateral cooperation in Tashkent on Thursday, the press service of the Russian Security Council said.
"Nikolai Patrushev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed the issues related to enhancing Russian-Uzbek security cooperation. They additionally addressed a number of issues of the cooperation between Russia and Uzbekistan in multilateral formats," the Russian Security Council said.
Russia backs Uzbekistan's CIS presidency priorities in 2020, the press service cited Patrushev as saying at the meeting.
At the meeting, the parties also discussed the issues of "international and regional policy, including the prospects of peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan," the Uzbek presidential press service said.
Mirziyoyev and Patrushev focused on "the issues of interaction in tackling modern challenges and threats to security, and boosting practical partnership in military and military-technical spheres," the statement reads.
On the same day, Patrushev attended a consultative conference between experts of the two countries' Security Councils, the Uzbek presidential press service said.
