Russian Baltic Fleet's service vessel enters Mediterranean

MOSCOW. Nov 1 (Interfax) - The Russian Baltic Fleet's floating ship repair plant PM-82, which accompanies Russian warships during long-range missions, has entered the Mediterranean Sea, the fleet's press service said.

"The PM-82 floating ship repair plant of the Baltic Fleet has completed its passage from Baltiysk and arrived in the Mediterranean Sea. In the near future, the PM-82 crew will embark on its six-month mission to maintain ships and submarines of the Russian Navy taskforce operating in this region," the press service said.

A counter-terrorism marine unit is permanently present on board this service ship, it said.

Russia's naval group made up of the frigate Yaroslav Mudry, the sea tugboat Viktor Konetsky, and the tanker Yelnya made a port call in Syria's Tartus as part of their long-distance deployment on October 28.

The ships left the military base in Baltiysk on October 1, heading for the Indian Ocean.
