BANGKOK. Nov 5 (Interfax) - The supplies of Russian aircraft and helicopters, as well as agricultural goods, to Thailand are promising areas of cooperation between the two countries, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.
"We discussed various tracks at talks, it is clear that we can name what is already on the agenda and what will be added to the agenda in the near future. For instance, the purchases of Russian hardware, aircraft and helicopters, it is a large and serious market and we are quite interested in it," Medvedev said at a press conference following the Business and Investment Summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the East Asia Summit on Monday.
Additionally, digital and infrastructure projects are also a promising area of cooperation, the Russian prime minister said. "I believe some change of the structure of trade, switching these tracks to the trade sector, could be a result. I believe we have good conditions, or actually good opportunities for cooperation in the agriculture sector. Because we can supply meat, which is quite actively consumed in Thailand, here and our partners from Thailand can supply Thai fruits, which are known to be of very good quality, to our country," Medvedev said, adding that those are the fruits that cannot be substituted for imports in Russia.
One of the major Thai firms made investments in dairy production in Russia, he said. "About a billion dollars already. It is a very serious amount, and [the company] has plans to invest more," the prime minister said.
It is a very complicated business with the long investment cycle and not very high profitability, he said. "This is why such investments are quite valuable," Medvedev said.
