YEREVAN. Nov 5 (Interfax) - The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is the main factor of stability and security in the region, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.
"The CSTO is of strategic significance to us. It is the main factor of stability and security in our region. We attach great importance to all three dimensions of cooperation within the CSTO - foreign policy coordination, military-technical cooperation and security cooperation, and also a joint approach to our common threats," Pashinyan said on Tuesday at a meeting with parliament speakers from CSTO countries in Yerevan, which is hosting a session of the Council of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly (PA) and the assembly's plenary session.
These threats are evolving and changing, and "we need to appropriately respond to them, and our organization ought to match the current realities that exist in the region," he said.
"I am pleased that we constructively cooperate as part of the further development of the CSTO. I am also content that we were able to reach an agreement on the appointment of the CSTO secretary general in the sense that we need to make some changes to the CSTO documents so that all of them can help tackle a concrete situation," he said.
Pashinyan also reiterated the importance of forging even closer ties within the CSTO.
"The central point of our organization is to make sure that our relations in all areas meet the interests of all members of the organization. I think that relations between our countries ought to be a priority for all of us. This is Armenia's policy. This is the right path for normal development of the CSTO and our relations within it. We are committed to the CSTO's real development," Pashinyan said.
The CSTO consists of Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
