Baku studying info on Moscow visit by breakaway Karabakh minister

BAKU. Nov 5 (Interfax) - The Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan is studying media reports that a representative from the country's breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh travelled to Moscow, the ministry's spokesperson Leyla Abdullayeva said.

Efforts are under way to verify who Masis Mailyan met and which events he attended, she said.

"There is no diplomatic practice of a Foreign Ministry pre-announcing a summoning of a foreign ambassador over a particular issue. It is a serious step, and it should be prepared for in detail, primarily by gathering verified information," Abdullayeva said.

The ministry's position on Karabakh representatives traveling to foreign states is the same and equally applies to all similar case, she said.

"The question of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty within its internationally recognized borders is extremely important for us and for all our people," Abdullayeva said.

Mailyan is foreign minister of the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
