ISIL militants who attacked post on Uzbek border came from Afghanistan - Tajik State National Security Committee

DUSHNABE, Nov 6 (Interfax) - The ISIL militants (terrorist organization prohibited in Russia) who attacked the border guard post Ishkobod of the border guard unit Sultanabad on the border with Uzbekistan came to Tajikistan from the territory of Afghanistan, the press center for the republic's State National Security Committee told Interfax.

"The armed attack on border post 4 Ishkobod of the Sultanabad border guard unit was carried out by ISIL militants, who had entered the territory of the Qabodiyon district of Tajikistan from the territory of the Qalai-I-Zal district of Afghanistan's Kunduz province," it said.

Investigation into the attack continue, the press center said.

The Tajik Interior Ministry published details of the attack on its website.

A group of unidentified assailants wearing masks used arms to attack the Ishkobod border guard post in the early hours of November 6. The assailants seized five pieces of firearms, the ministry said in a statement.

"Fifteen members and four their cars were destroyed during the security operation and the chase. The remaining four members of the group, who had fled to the village of Esanboi, Rudaki district, were detained," it said.

One border guard and one policeman were killed in the operation, it said.

Investigators are working on the scene, it said.

The Rudaki district, formerly Leninsky district, is one of the largest in Tajikistan. There are three towns and 13 villages. The village of Esanboi borders the Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan.
