BISHKEK. Nov 6 (Interfax) - Talan Onurov, who has been arrested on suspicion of plotting a terror attack in Moscow, is a Kyrgyz citizen, the press officer of the Kyrgyz Embassy in Moscow, Gulbarchyn Bayimbetova, told Interfax on Wednesday.
"Talant Onurov, arrested in Moscow, is a Kyrgyz citizen. A lawyer has been appointed for him and began studying the criminal case," Bayimbetova said.
The Kyrgyz embassy is monitoring this issue, she said.
On Tuesday, the Moscow's Cheryomushkinsky District Court sanctioned the arrest of a 30-year-old radical Islamist suspected of plotting a terror attack in the Russian capital.
"Upholding the investigators' motion, the court imposed a measure of restraint in the form of placement in custody on Talant Onurov until January 1, 2020," court spokesperson Irena Kozayeva told Interfax, adding that the court hearing took place on November 3.
The court did not clarify the details of the charges; however, according to informed sources, the suspect, a radical Islamist, was making arrangements and seeking accomplices to commit a terror attack in Moscow.
"To that end, he was looking for a location to commit the crime and actively studying materials on how to build an explosive device," one source said.
The source said that "Onurov was unable to follow through with his plan for reasons beyond his control."
Onurov was charged with attempting to commit a terror attack.
According to the investigators, the crime was motivated by the man's beliefs in radical Islamist ideology calling for jihad.
