ROSTOV-ON-DON. Nov 6 (Interfax) - Russian-made MiG-29 aircraft and Kamov Ka-52 Alligator helicopters of the Egyptian Air Force have performed offensive tasks as the imaginary enemy at the Arrow of Friendship 2019, Russia's Southern Military District said.
"Pilots drilled offensive tasks as the imaginary enemy operating from various lines, solo and in groups, at varying altitudes and speeds. MiG-29 aircraft dropped mock bombs and simulated mines were exploded near the launch and firing positions of the Buk-M2E and Tor-M2E air defense missile systems," the district's press service said.
Joint Russian-Egyptian crews successfully "destroyed" air targets, it said.
"Joint Russian-Egyptian crews of air defense systems drilled searching, detecting, identifying, pursuing and destroying the targets with electronic launches. The units also practiced repositioning and marched to the designated area," it said.
The exercise involves joint battalions of Buk-M2E and Tor-M2E systems, the Shilka-M4 self-propelled air defense systems and the Igla-S man-portable air defense systems, it said.
The final stage of the exercise will involve firing at unmanned aerial vehicles.
This is the first Arrow of Friendship exercise and it is taking place on the grounds of a training tactical air defense center in Egypt on October 26 - November 7.
The Russian Defense Ministry sent over 100 troops from the Southern Military District to take part in the exercise.
