BOLSHOI KAMEN (Vladivostok). Nov 8 (Interfax) - The Project 1155 large anti-submarine ship Marshal Shaposhnikov and the Project 949A Antey nuclear-powered multirole submarine Irkutsk, which will undergo an upgrade in the interests of the Russian Pacific Fleet, will be able to use Tsirkon advanced hypersonic missiles, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivoruchko said.
"We are due to receive the ship Marshal Shaposhnikov after an upgrade in 2020. I am convinced that the administration [of the Dalzavod Ship Repair Center in Vladivostok] will take a proper approach toward tackling this task and the timeline for handing over the ship will not be postponed. The universal launch systems to be installed on the ship will allow it to use Tsirkon cutting-edge hypersonic missiles in the future," Krivoruchko told reporters on Friday after a visit to enterprises of the Far East ship building cluster.
The nuclear-powered submarine Irkutsk will also be upgraded to the 9494AM level at the Far East shipyard Zvezda, located in Bolshoi Kamen, Primorye Territory, he said, adding that it would be handed over to the Pacific Fleet in 2022.
