MOSCOW. Nov 8 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has said he assumes that Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan will be appointed ambassador in Moscow, adding that he hopes he will promote normalization of the relations between the two countries.
"It seems that his appointment will take place, depending on how the approval by the whole Senate goes, but we need to see what will happen when his candidacy is voted on," Ryabkov told reporters on Friday.
"We see this as a sign that Washington attaches considerable importance to the situation in its relations with Moscow. The situation is extremely difficult. We will hope that, if he is approved and appointed here, Sullivan will pursue a line that will help bring the relations out of their current extremely difficult state," he said.
