U.S. vote against UN resolution against glorification of Nazism due to Washington's ambitions - Kosachyov

SAMARA. Nov 8 (Interfax) - The United States' stance on the resolution against glorification of Nazism has no direct relation to the contents of the resolution and is an attempt to impose its will on the global community, Federation Council Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Konstantin Kosachyov said.

"In this case, the U.S. is trying to impose its will on the international community. I think it does not have a direct and immediate relation to the contents of the resolution. It is just important for it to ensure in any case that the world develops in the way necessary for the U.S. side. The way it thinks is right," Kosachyov told journalists in Samara on Friday.

"Ukraine in this case simply shows again and again that it isn't independent," he said.

"The Ukrainians are trying by hook or by crook to show their loyalty to the U.S. under the guise of independence and defending their sovereignty," Kosachyov said.

The countries that are the EU members, as a rule, abstain in such voting, he said.

"At least it's a relative compromise. I feel deep regret for Ukraine as the Ukrainians lack the political courage and the ability to resist temptations to take such a stance of compromise on this obvious issue and, what's more, the Ukrainians lack the decency and certain moral grounds to endorse this resolution," Kosachyov said.

"The ratio of votes, as usual, allows one to expect that the resolution will be adopted by the substantial majority of the UN members this year, too," he said.

As reported earlier, the United Nations General Assembly Third Committee (also known as the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee) adopted a Russian-sponsored resolution against the glorification of Nazism by a majority of votes on Friday.
