MOSCOW. Nov 12 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry have seen in British media reports the hints to Moscow's implication in the death of James Le Mesurier, a co-founder of the White Helmets organization, which is operating in the Middle East, in particular, in Syria, and said that these kinds of allegations are baseless.
On November 11, The Independent published the article entitled "James Le Mesurier: White Helmets backer found dead near his home in Istanbul" following Russia's accusations of espionage against him, the Russian Foreign Ministry wrote on Facebook.
"The incident is linked to Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova's recent statements made on November 8 revealing the British spy's activity. Meanwhile, the information is presented in the distorted and biased manner, as direct hints to Moscow's involvement in this incident are made," the Russian Foreign Ministry wrote on its Facebook account.
Furthermore, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that its information and press department's first official commentary on Mesurier's affiliation with a British secret service and connection to the White Helmets was published back in April 2017. The Russian Foreign Ministry also mentioned Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Syromolotov's statement made on March 16, 2019.
"Since 2016, the Russian Foreign Ministry has been actively drawing the attention of the international community to cynical crimes of the pseudo-humanitarian organization White Helmets and has been producing irrefutable evidence of its involvement in terrorist organizations' activities. We have repeatedly emphasized that the appearance of this non-governmental organization is closely linked to Middle Eastern projects of special services of a number of Western countries," the statement reads.
"It is totally unclear when the British media has linked that to Russian Foreign Ministry's official statements precisely now, while we have already made similar statements, the more so on numerous occasions," the Russian Foreign Ministry wrote on its Facebook account.
"Another media scandal is fanning" around the White Helmets co-founder death, the statement said.
The non-governmental organization White Helmets has earlier confirmed reports about the death of Mayday Rescue non-profit charity foundation founder Le Mesurier. According to media reports, the Mayday Rescue Foundation has founded the White Helmets.
