Pacific Fleet military divers practice destruction of mock enemy saboteurs in Kamchatka

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY. Nov 13 (Interfax) - A Russian Pacific Fleet Underwater Forces unit specializing in neutralizing underwater sabotage forces has conducted an exercise to practice measures against mock enemy sabotage and reconnaissance squads in Kamchatka, the Pacific Fleet press service said in a statement on Wednesday.

"The unit's personnel practiced combat measures to seek and destroy a mock enemy underwater sabotage and reconnaissance squad on approaches to and at the base of submarines, and trained interoperability with the group's forces on duty," the statement said.

Patrol groups increased the protection of coastal facilities and pier zones at the bases of surface ships and submarines and took measures to prevent the mock enemy sabotage and reconnaissance squad from entering a guarded water area, it said.

Special significance during the exercise was attached to practicing the use of weapons and hardware, special technical means, and concealment devices.

"After detecting and destroying the mock saboteurs, the divers of the Underwater Forces' anti-sabotage unit inspected the underwater hulls of the submarines and the waterway from berths and speedboats," the statement said.
