Embassy demands that London explain British military commander's remark on Russian policy

MOSCOW. Nov 14 (Interfax) - The Russian embassy in London has sent a note to the Foreign Office following the remark of Chief of the British Defense Staff Gen. Nick Carter on the Russian policy.

"The note drew attention of the British side to the fact that Gen. Carter had intentionally tried to give the viewers and readers an impression that the Russian policy might lead to an armed confrontation with the UK," the embassy said in a statement posted on its website.

Russia's assistance to the Syrian government's fight against terrorism and humanitarian projects in Africa "have been presented by the general as a threat to security of the United Kingdom comparable with the risk of military invasion," the embassy said, adding that Carter "has practically supported the opinion that the UK is in a state of cyber-war with Russia."

"We view such remarks made by the highest ranking British military as flawed and reckless. This is another manifestation of the continuous attempts of certain forces to cultivate Russia's image as a hostile state in the UK," the embassy said.

The note asked the Foreign Office to explain to Russia and the general public whether Carter's remarks reflected the official stance of the British government.
