Russia, Turkey might build new fighter aircraft together - FSMTC chief

DUBAI. Nov 18 (Interfax) - Russia could help Turkey build advanced fighter aircraft, Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) Director Dmitry Shugayev said.

"As concerns the development of advanced aircraft, the parties are currently conducting technical consultations and negotiations on a 4++ generation aircraft and first preliminary consultations on a fifth generation aircraft," Shugayev told journalists at an exhibition in Dubai.

Russia and Turkey have all the necessary competencies for this work, he said.

"Taking into account our competencies in building our fifth-generation fighter, Russia could be involved in this project. In particular, such cooperation is possible on a number of this plane's systems. We are discussing the matter with our partners, but it would be premature to make statements on the start of substantive negotiations on the development of a new plane by Russia and Turkey," Shugayev said.
