MOSCOW. Nov 20 (Interfax) - A newly-formed naval police unit in Crimea will hold an anti-sabotage exercise, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"The exercise, involving the newly formed naval military police unit repelling an attack by a mock subversive group, will be held in one of Sevastopol's bays," the ministry said.
Under the exercise scenario, saboteurs attack a warship from the sea using fast watercraft. The police practice interception of the saboteurs in marine waters.
The naval military police forces are equipped with fast-sailing BL-80 boats, service-issued firearms and non-lethal impact guns as well as shoulder, oversleeve and knee protection gear, the ministry said.
The exercise will involve the BTR-80 armored personnel carrier, KAMAZ army trucks, Rys (Lynx) armored vehicles, a large landing ship, and about 100 personnel.
It was reported that the Baltic Fleet had formed a naval police unit. Russian military police are also involved in the Syrian campaign where, among other things, they patrol the country's northeast alongside the Turkish military.
