Russian inspectors to visit military sites in Portugal - Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Nov 25 (Interfax) - A Russian expert team will inspect military sites in Portugal under the 2011 Vienna Document, the Russian Defense Ministry's newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda reported on Monday.

"In the period from November 25 to November 29, a Russian inspection team will visit the designated area of Portugal in furtherance of the 2011 Vienna Document on confidence building and security measures," the newspaper said, citing head of the National Nuclear Threat Reduction Center Sergei Ryzhkov.

According to the newspaper, the inspected area will near 16,000 square kilometers. The Russian experts will visit training centers and ranges and will be briefed on the stationed formations and military units.

The 2011 Vienna Document stipulates broad exchange of information about military forces, defense planning, and defense budgets. OSCE member states share information about certain types of military activity, invite observers, and hold inspections. The document aims to build confidence and security between 57 OSCE member states in Europe, Asia, and America.
