IZHEVSK. Nov 27 (Interfax) - Officials from the Federal Security Service's directorate for Udmurtia have prevented an attempt made by a resident of Izhevsk to establish contact with a foreign diplomatic mission to provide secret information to it, the press service for the directorate said in a statement on Wednesday.
"A resident of Izhevsk has made attempts to establish contact with a foreign diplomatic mission for the purpose of providing information on secret developments related to the military-technical sphere for payment," the statement said.
It was determined that the man earlier had access to information constituting a state secret and intended to create an organization in Udmurtia whose main purpose would be to obtain such information.
"The man's motive was to benefit from selling secret information to a foreign party. Timely detection and localization of this criminal intent made it possible to prevent the infliction of damage to the security of Russia," the statement said.
In this regard, the man's actions were classed as treason, but they did not contain evidence of a crime and he was only issued an official warning.
