Russian military takes part in int'l antiterrorist exercise in China

VLADIVOSTOK. Nov 27 (Interfax) - An international antiterrorist exercise of the ASEAN countries and their dialogue partners involving a group of servicemen from the Eastern Military District has ended in China, the Eastern Military District press service said in a statement on Wednesday.

"During the active phase, the special task unit of the Eastern Military District in cooperation with groups composed of servicemen of the countries participating in the exercise conducted tentative reconnaissance of the area occupied by conditional militants using drones, revealed hypothetical terrorists' communication channels, and conducted field reconnaissance of the assault objects," the statement said.

Measures were taken to suppress communication channels of "terrorists" using electronic interference. The special task unit of the Eastern Military District and other exercise participants them surrounded and blocked the area.

During the operation, "hostages" held in administrative buildings were freed and taken to a safe area and the detained "terrorists" were taken out for questioning.

"The exercise participants also practiced landing a tactical air landing force, armed patrolling of a 'protected' area, and engineering reconnaissance to search for and destroy explosive objects," the statement said.

The Eastern Military District was represented in the exercise by officers from the Eastern Military District headquarters for work on multi-national command points and servicemen from special task units, some 40 people in total.

The troops of the People's Liberation Army of China earlier demonstrated to the Eastern Military District special task force and other exercise participants tactical techniques for moving on the streets and the use of road vehicles. The Eastern Military District special task force was involved in an exercise to take over a building and a road vehicle, and rescue hypothetical hostages.

The exercise participants became familiar with methods for storming a building full of gas and holding occupied premises.

The snipers of the Eastern Military District special task unit took part in command tactics exercises, target observation, and sniper shooting. The methods of field medical assistance and evacuation of hypothetically wounded people were demonstrated.
