Jeenbekov sums up results of Kyrgyzstan's presidency in CSTO, notes Russia's important role in organization

BISHKEK. Nov 28 (Interfax) - Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov summed up results of Kyrgyzstan's presidency in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and emphasized Russia's efforts toward the provision of Eurasian security at the organization's summit in Bishkek on Thursday.

"During the period of its presidency, Kyrgyzstan has been actively working to boost the international authority of the CSTO. Legalization of the organization's Crisis Response Center has been completed. I'd like to emphasize Russia's effort toward the provision of security of all Eurasia. The Center 2019 strategic command exercise of the Russian Armed Forces is an illustrative example of those efforts," Jeenbekov said.

The Kyrgyz presidency "took concrete steps toward the achievement of objectives in the military, military-economic, and military-technical cooperation areas," he said.

"The first Echelon special exercise was held in Russia, in addition to the joint exercises Unbreakable Brotherhood in Tajikistan and Interaction in Russia. Cohesion of CSTO national armed forces was achieved and their combat readiness was enhanced," Jeenbekov said.

"Active efforts have been taken to heighten the CSTO defense potential and to improve military cooperation. The fight against drug trafficking was a focal point," he said.

CSTO member states continue to cooperate in the detection, prevention, and stopping of terrorist and extremist use of information and communication technologies, Jeenbekov said.

"Our organization is creating a common anti-terrorist space. I can say on the whole that the plans of our presidency in the organization have been successfully accomplished," he said.

The CSTO Collective Security Council met in Bishkek on Thursday under the chairmanship of Kyrgyzstan.

The CSTO comprises Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
