MOSCOW. Dec 2 (Interfax) - Ships of the Russian Northern Fleet will practice in the Arctic and continue to perform long-range voyages in 2020, the fleet's press service said in a statement on Monday.
"The Northern Fleet will practice protection of Russia's Arctic and insular territories and perform a series of long-range voyages in 2020," Northern Fleet Commander Alexander Moiseyev said at a meeting marking the beginning of the new training year in the Russian Armed Forces.
"Crews of the Vice-Admiral Kulakov and the Kondopoga landing ship will be the first to accomplish missions in the remote oceanic zone," Moiseyev said.
He additionally announced the pending delivery of the Knyaz Vladimir nuclear submarine, whose state trials are nearing completion.
The Knyaz Vladimir strategic submarine belongs to the modernized project Borei-A and the fourth generation of subs designed for the Russian Navy. In contrast to the previous three Borei-type submarines (the Yury Dolgoruky, the Alexander Nevsky, and the Vladimir Monomakh), the Knyaz Vladimir boasts lower noise levels and better maneuvering, submersion, and arms control systems, the statement said.
