Putin signs law allowing FSB, Interior Ministry, National Guard, Penitentiary Service to shoot down drones

MOSCOW. Dec 2 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed into law a bill allowing several government departments and agencies to shoot down drones which pose a security threat.

The Federal Security Service, the Federal Protection Service, Interior Ministry, National Guard, and the Federal Penitentiary Service will now have the power to "foil the presence of unmanned aerial vehicles in airspace for legal purposes, including by suppressing or transforming UAV remote control signals and by damaging or destroying of such vehicles."

The law allows law enforcement to seize remote control devices in the event of a public threat.

The law is published on the official legal information website. It was passed by State Duma on November 21 and approved by Federation Council on November 25, 2019.
