Two aviation regiments reestablished in Russian Northern Fleet

MOSCOW. Dec 3 (Interfax) - Two air force regiments have been reestablished in Russia's Northern Fleet since the beginning of the new training year.

"The air force and air defense army of the Northern Fleet has undergone routine reorganization. The combined guard aviation regiment and the shipborne anti-submarine helicopter regiment, which were merged at a single airbase ten years ago, have become separate military units. A helicopter squadron equipped with [Mil] Mi-8 helicopters has been separated from the airbase," the Northern Fleet said in a statement obtained by Interfax on Monday.

The fleet's separate shipborne anti-submarine helicopter regiment is equipped with the anti-submarine and rescue versions of Kamov Ka-27 helicopters and Ka-29 assault helicopters.

The separate combined guard aviation regiment is manned by crews operating Ilyushin Il-38 anti-submarine aircraft and military transport planes.

"Both regiments continue to be based at the Severomorsk-1 airfield. Their plane and helicopter crews resumed routine combat training as soon as the new combat training period began," the statement said.
