Russia's Northern Fleet naval ships set off for Atlantic to have several drills

MOSCOW. Dec 3 (Interfax) - A squadron of Northern Fleet naval ships set off for a long-distance voyage from Severomorsk, the fleet's main base, on Tuesday.

"The naval squadron will sail to the Atlantic Ocean via the Barents Sea. The crews of these ships will perfect their naval training skills during the voyage and will hold a number of ship-based drills involving various types of defense by a group of ships during sea crossing," the Northern Fleet said in a statement received by Interfax.

"The group of naval ships includes the Vice Admiral Kulakov large submarine chaser and the Kondopoga large landing ship," according to the Northern Fleet headquarters.

"Kamov Ka-27 ship-based helicopters will carry out scheduled flights from the Vice Admiral Kulakov large submarine chaser," the statement reads.
