Russia to double number of ships carrying Kalibr missiles by 2023 - Putin (Part 2)

SOCHI. Dec 3 (Interfax) - Russia will double the number of its ships armed with Kalibr missiles within the next few years, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"As concerns the Russian Navy's strategic non-nuclear forces, its core is comprised of ships carrying precision-guided weapons, namely, Kalibr long-range missiles. These missiles are capable of destroying targets at a range of 1,500 kilometers," Putin said at a conference in Sochi on Tuesday.

"The implementation of the State Armament Program would make it possible to more than double their number by 2023," he said.

Interfax had reported earlier that modern Russian ships are equipped with the UKSK 3S14 vertical launcher, which is capable of launching several versions of the Kalibr missile and also the Onyx, BrahMos and Tsirkon missiles.
