BERLIN. Dec 4 (Interfax) - Berlin expects Moscow to facilitate the investigation into the killing of a Georgian citizen and warns that the decision to expel two Russian diplomats could be followed by further measures, a spokesperson for the German Federal Foreign Office said.
"State Secretary [Andreas] Michaelis informed Ambassador Nechayev of these expectations during a conversation at the German Foreign Office on November 20, 2019. Russia did not respond to the government's calls for facilitating the investigation," the spokesperson told Interfax.
Germany declared two Russian embassy employees personae non gratae because Russia did not cooperate enough in investigating the crime, the spokesperson said.
The German government still expects Russia's cooperation, especially considering that the German prosecution authorities suspect that the killer might have acted on orders from either the Russian federal government or the Chechen authorities, she said.
"The German government reserves the right to take further steps in light of the investigation," the spokesperson said.
