Slutsky pledges to help release United Russia member detained in Ukraine

MOSCOW. Dec 5 (Interfax) - The State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee will provide parliamentary assistance in achieving the release of Crimea resident, member of the United Russia party Igor Kucheryavy, who has been detained in Ukraine for political motives, Committee Chairman Leonid Slutsky said on his Telegram channel.

"We will be closely monitoring the case. We are ready to provide full parliamentary assistance in achieving the soonest release of Igor Kucheryavy," Slutsky said.

"The detention of United Russia member Igor Kucheryavy by the Ukrainian Security Service is an act of political revenge. Kyiv keeps hunting Crimea residents who refused to recognize the unconstitutional coup of 2014 and to succumb to the bloody junta of Poroshenko," he said.

Criminal charges were brought against 6,000 Russian citizens residing in Crimea after the latter's reunification with Russia, as Kirill Vishinsky said at an expanding meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee dedicated to the protection of rights of Russian citizens abroad on November 22, following his release from captivity in Ukraine, Slutsky said.

"This is a real problem. We will be closely monitoring the situation. We are ready to give relevant parliamentary assistance in achieving the soonest release of Igor Kucheryavy," Slutsky said.
