Belarus not planning to become part of Russia - Lukashenko

MINSK. Dec 5 (Interfax) - Belarus will remain an independent country and is not going to become part of Russia, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said.

"We have never planned and are not planning to become part of any country, even fraternal Russia," the Belarusian state news agency BelTA quoted Lukashenko as saying in an address to the members of the fifth and the sixth Belarusian parliament on Thursday.

"Nobody in Belarus is going to give up the country's independence and sovereignty," he said.
