Treason case vs expert Neyelov specializing in private military companies reaches St. Petersburg court

ST. PETERSBURG. Dec 10 (Interfax) - The St. Petersburg City Court has registered a criminal case in relation to Vladimir Neyelov charged with high treason.

The common press service of St. Petersburg courts said on Tuesday the case classified as 'top secret' was handed to a judge but was not yet formally taken up.

Neyelov is currently being held in pretrial custody.

It had been reported earlier that Neyelov had been charged with treason. He was detained at the end of October 2018, and Moscow's Lefortovsky District Court ordered that he be taken into custody.

The Federal Security Service (FSB) suspects Neyelov, a military expert and the author of numerous works on military matters, of passing information constituting state secrets to a foreign country. The factual details of the criminal case are still unknown, as the case has been classified.

According to open sources, Neyelov is an expert of the Center of Strategic Trends and the Center of Strategic Estimates and Forecasts. He specializes in studying private military companies and the phenomenon of "privatization of the military sphere," specifics of modern wars, military doctrines and strategies, revolutionary changes in the military science, and so on.

Neyelov is also the author of a number of works related to strategic research and military-political analysis.
