U.S. backs Russia's idea to engage France, UK in strategic stability discussions - Pompeo

WASHINGTON. Dec 11 (Interfax) - The United States is ready to consider Russia's proposal on engaging France and the United Kingdom in strategic stability negotiations, U.S. Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said.

"Foreign Minister Lavrov suggested France and the United Kingdom join as well, we are happy to consider that, too," Pompeo said at a press conference after talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Washington.

Agreements in the sphere concluded in the past are outdated, Pompeo said, adding that strategic stability has diminished.

New agreements should also take into consideration new technologies and arms systems, as well as the fact that the number of countries that can pose a threat to strategic stability has been growing, he said.
