Development of joint air defenses at center of meeting of top Russian, Kyrgyz military commanders

MOSCOW. Dec 12 (Interfax) - Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov and First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Kyrgyzstan's Armed Forces Nurlan Kiresheyev discussed the development of the two countries' joint regional air defense system as well as other key issues concerning bilateral cooperation at a meeting in Moscow on Wednesday.

"Key avenues of collaberation in the military field are the development of the joint group of forces, the joint regional air defense system, and joint operational and combat training. Great attention is being given to ensuring the effective functioning of the joint Russian military base in Kyrgyzstan as a guarantor of stability in the Central Asia region," Gerasimov said at the talks.

During its visit to Moscow, the Kyrgyz military delegation will be shown around the Russian National Defense Control Center and will be told about its structure, tasks, history, and main functions, he said.

Kiresheyev, in turn, said that Russian-Kyrgyz cooperation both bilaterally and within international organizations is diverse and is developing at a rapid pace.
