Russian military distributes several tonnes of food in village near Syria's Raqqa

RAQQA. Dec 13 (Interfax) - Servicemen from the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria have carried out their first humanitarian mission in the village of Qarmala, 30 kilometers from Raqqa, which was the de facto capital of Islamic State (ISIL, banned in Russia) for several years.

The food kits distributed during the mission were customized to cater to the needs of Muslims to enable them to cook their traditional dishes, Russian Center for Reconciliation officer Vladimir Varnavsky told reporters.

"Furthermore, all these products have very long shelf lives, and we can be sure that all of them will be used," Varnavsky said.

Russian servicemen delivered several tonnes of food kits to Qarmala. They intend to continue such humanitarian missions in northern Syria.

The Russian Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides has conducted more than 2,000 humanitarian missions, distributing almost 4,000 tonnes of food supplies, since it began working in Syria.
