Russian, Indian troops kill mock terrorists who seize airfield

MOSCOW. Dec 19 (Interfax) - An exercise in destroying an illegally armed group after it seized a military facility was held during the Indra 2019 maneuvers of the Russian and Indian armed forces, the Russian Baltic Fleet said in a statement obtained by Interfax.

"During the planned drills, Indian naval aviation crews carried out bombing practice involving Goa airfield facilities seized by mock terrorists. After that, several helicopters hovered above the airfield to provide fire support and airdrop the Gattaka special forces unit," the statement said.

"Special forces stormed the building, destroying the remnants of the terrorists who survived the bombing, and capturing several others," the statement said.

Two days earlier in the Arabian Sea, Baltic Fleet Marines and Indian Special Forces, using high velocity speed boats, stormed and seized the oil tanker Yelnya, which had been seized by mock militants; these were then killed, the statement said.

The Indra 2019 joint exercises are taking place in three Indian states from December 11 to December 21. More than 700 Russian military personnel are involved.
