MOSCOW. Dec 20 (Interfax) - The first fifth-generation Husky submarine will appear by the late 2020s, the United Shipbuilding Corporation's (USC) chief Alexei Rakhmanov said.
"On average, the construction cycle for such submarines is seven to ten years, depending on design. I am absolutely certain that we will fit into this timeframe," Rakhmanov told the Kommersant newspaper.
The USC is drafting its first projects for discussion with the Defense Ministry; discussions will take place soon, he said.
"This will be one example for considering new approaches to designing and building next-generation submarines," Rakhmanov said.
The nuclear submarine Husky is being designed by Malakhit Marine Engineering Bureau and is expected to be armed with Tsirkon hypersonic missiles.
