Creation of Spektr-UF orbital telescope to be included in new space program - Roscosmos chief

MOSCOW. Dec 20 (Interfax) - A project to create and launch an orbital observatory, Spektr-UF (Spectrum UV), will receive funding under a new space program, Roscosmos State Corporation for Space Activities chief Dmitry Rogozin told journalists on Friday.

"Next year, we are planning to begin creating a single-complex state program for Russia's space activities... We will definitely include the Spektr-UF," Rogozin said.

The new orbital observatory is designed for operation in the ultraviolet spectrum inaccessible to observation from Earth. The project involves Russia, Germany, and Spain. Spektr-UF is expected to be the only large instrument for UV research once the Hubble Space Telescope completes its mission.
