About 30 GLONASS sats to be produced within next 5 years - producer

MOSCOW. Dec 24 (Interfax) - Information Satellite Systems Reshetnev will manufacture 27 satellites for the GLONASS global positioning system by 2025, the company's Director General Nikolai Testoyedov said.

"We need to produce 27 GLONASS satellites alone by 2025," Testoyedov is quoted by the corporate newspaper Siberian Satellite as saying.

Information Satellite Systems Reshetnev has been provided with orders for satellites up to 2030, he said.

"We are working on signing contracts for serial production of two Meridian-M satellites already this year. Contracts for the manufacture of two new Luch-5VM satellites will be signed at the beginning of next year," Testoyedov said.

GLONASS is a Russian navigation satellite system. Its orbital cluster currently numbers 28 satellites, of which 22 are being applied for their designated purpose, while one satellite each is at the stage of integration into the system, operating as a backup, and undergoing flight trials, and a further three satellites are undergoing technical maintenance.

Meridian satellites are dual-purpose and are manufactured by Information Satellite Systems Reshetnev on the order of the Russia Armed Forces.

Luch-5 satellites are designed for telecommunications broadcasting.
