KYIV. Dec 26 (Interfax) - Findings from a nationwide survey conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation together with the Sociological Service of the Razumkov Center show that 64.2% of Ukrainian citizens believe that Ukraine should join the European Union.
Another 12.7% of respondents think that Ukraine needs to become a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, and 23.1% of those polled could not answer the question.
At the same time, 51.2% of respondents believe that Ukraine's accession to NATO would be the best guarantee of Ukraine's security, 26.1% believe that Ukraine's non-aligned status can guarantee its security, 5.5% spoke in favor of a military alliance with Russia and other members of the Commonwealth of Independent States, 1.5% spoke in favor of a military alliance with the United States, 1.6% named other options, and 14.1% of respondents could not answer the question.
A total of 44.2% of respondents believe that Ukraine is moving in the right direction, 35.8% of those polled took the opposite view, and 20% were undecided.
The survey also shows that 27.8% of respondents believe that Ukraine will be able to resolve its problems and overcome difficulties within the next few years, 50% think that this will happen later, 11.2% think that Ukraine can't cope with its difficulties, and 11% could not answer this question.
The study was conducted from December 13 to December 18 in all regions of Ukraine. It surveyed 2,017 people aged 18 and older. It was presented in Kyiv on Thursday.
