Peresvet combat laser to be mounted on aircraft

MOSCOW. Dec 30 (Interfax) - The Peresvet combat laser will be mounted on aircraft, Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivoruchko said in an interview with the Russian Defense Ministry's Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper.

"We are working to increase the capacity of the Peresvet complex. It will be deployed on aerial vehicles in the coming years," Krivoruchko said.

At present, Peresvet laser systems are used to cover the movement of strategic missile systems.

Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on December 24 that Peresvet laser systems had been deployed in the missile deployment areas of five divisions of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces.

Peresvet was one of the new Russian weapons mentioned by Russian President Vladimir Putin in his address to the Federal Assembly on March 1, 2018. As reported earlier, such systems were put on trial combat duty on December 1.

The Russian Defense Ministry said in February that "Peresvet laser complexes are a brand new, high-tech weapon."

There have been official reports of the delivery of Peresvet systems to the Space Forces, which are practicing their operation.

Peresvet can deter airstrikes and fight satellites, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Facebook a year ago.
