MOSCOW. Jan 9 (Interfax) - Russia's Space Forces detected more than 70 missile launches last year, the Russian Defense Ministry's information department said.
"In 2019, standby facilities of Russia's missile attack early warning system and specialized facilities of the outer space monitoring and missile defense system detected over 70 launches of foreign and Russian ballistic missiles and space rockets," it said.
Interfax reported earlier that 25 launches of Russian launch vehicles were conducted in 2019.
The Defense Ministry's information department said earlier that the Russian Space Forces had detected some 60 launches of ballistic missile and space rockets in 2018.
The Russian early warning system consists of seven radar stations deployed in the Leningrad, Kaliningrad, Irkutsk, and Orenburg regions, the Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk, and Altai Territories.
"Work is continuing to build new radar stations in the Murmansk region and the Republic of Komi," the department said.
Sergei Boyev, the chief designer of Russia's missile attack warning system, told Interfax in November that construction of a new Voronezh-class radar station would soon start in Crimea.
