Russia to develop military-technical cooperation with South Sudan as long as int'l restrictions eased - Lavrov

MOSCOW. Jan 28 (Interfax) - Russia stands ready to develop military-technical cooperation with South Sudan as long as the international restrictions on sales of weapons to that country are eased, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"An agreement on military-technical cooperation between our governments has also been in effect since 2016. We agreed to use this area of our cooperation in the interests of enhancing the Republic of South Sudan's security and defense capability, too - of course, as long as the restrictions on arms trade with this country imposed by the UN Security Council are eased," Lavrov said at a joint press conference with South Sudanese Foreign Minister Awut Deng Acuil.
