Over 70% of Russians describe Russia as great power - poll

MOSCOW. Jan 28 (Interfax) - Seventy-one percent of Russians describe Russia as a great power, the Levada Analytical Center said in a statement seen by Interfax.

This is one of the highest percentages seen over the past two decades; the maximum indicator of 75% was achieved in 2018, and the number of respondents who called Russia a great power in 2017 stood at 72%.

Thirty-one percent of respondents described Russia as a great power in March 1999, Levada said.

Twenty-six percent of current respondents disagree, the pollster said. The number of such respondents was the smallest in 2018 and 2017, 23% and 22%, respectively. According to the statement, 65% of respondents did not view Russia as a great power in 1999.

Levada polled 1,608 persons aged 18 and over in 137 populated localities in 50 constituent territories from December 12 to 18, 2019.
