Mideast Quartet should be engaged in assessing U.S.-proposed 'deal of century' - Lavrov

MOSCOW. Jan 28 (Interfax) - The Middle East Quartet of international mediators should analyze the so-called deal of the century for settling the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"Certainly, I would prefer the quartet of international mediators, which involves Russia, the U.S., the UN, and the European Union, to analyze this situation too; this mechanism has been virtually idle and therefore has not been engaged in the past years to help find commonly acceptable solutions," Lavrov said at a joint press conference with South Sudanese Foreign Minister Awut Deng Acuil on Tuesday.
