Moscow opposes idea of concluding new nuclear deal with Iran - diplomat

MOSCOW. Jan 29 (Interfax) - Moscow is opposed to a proposal on concluding a new nuclear deal with Iran, which would replace the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Russian Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov said.

"No need for a new nuclear deal," Ulyanov said on Twitter on Wednesday.

"#JCPOA should be implemented and after that the Additional Protocol with its intensive and intrusive verification will ensure confidence in exclusively peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear programme," he said.

U.S. President Donald Trump earlier came up with the idea of concluding a new nuclear deal with Iran. Trump has previously described the JCPOA as the worst deal the U.S. has ever made. He announced U.S. withdrawal from it in May 2018.
