MOSCOW. Jan 31 (Interfax) - The United States has received President Putin's proposal to convene a summit of the five nuclear powers acting as permanent members of the UN Security Council, which is under consideration in Washington, new U.S. Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan told Interfax.
"I can confirm that we have received President Putin's proposal, which is under consideration in Washington," Sullivan said.
"The United Nations has been the main forum for discussion among the five Security Council permanent member states for 75 years, since its founding in San Francisco in 1945. We work closely with all members of the Security Council on a regular basis and will continue to do so, wherever those conversations take place," he said.
Putin called on January 23 for convening a summit of the five nuclear states (the UK, France, China, the U.S., and Russia) at any convenient place and time.
