Russia to conduct anti-sub exercises in North Atlantic

MOSCOW. Feb 3 (Interfax) - A Northern Fleet naval group will conduct exercises in air and anti-submarine defense in the North Atlantic on the way to Severomorsk, spokesman for the fleet Vadim Serga said.

"The Vice-Admiral Kulakov destroyer met the Kondopoga landing ship on Monday at the boundary of the Baltic and North Seas. The two formed a detachment and set a course for the main base of the Northern Fleet, Severomorsk," Serga said on Monday.

"During the voyage across the North Atlantic seas the crews will drill planned tasks in air defense and anti-submarine defense," he said.

Earlier, the Vice-Admiral Kulakov left the group of Northern Fleet ships and support vessels led by the Marshal Ustinov cruiser. Together with the crew of the cruiser, it took part in joint exercises of the Northern and Black Sea Fleets in the Black Sea under the leadership of the Navy's commander-in-chief.

The Marshal Ustinov, the Vyazma medium sea-going tanker, and the SB-406 sea-going rescue tug have entered the southern part of the Norwegian Sea. They are heading for their home bases in the Kola Peninsula, where they are expected to arrive at the end of the week.
