Pompeo understands Belarus' issues, promises to help - Lukashenko

MINSK. Feb 4 (Interfax) - U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo understands Belarus' issues, including in its relations with Russia, and has promised to help, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said.

"We discussed everything that I know and that they know. He [Pompeo] spoke with me frankly about his politics. I said how I understand things. He understands our issues now. Among others, they are really well aware, sometimes even better than myself, about certain issues in relations with Russia," the state news agency BelTA cited Lukashenko as saying during his visit to Dobrush on Tuesday.

Pompeo promised to help Belarus. "He told me, don't worry, we'll help Belarus. And he said, we [the U.S.] will supply oil at competitive prices," Lukashenko said.

In general, speaking about his meeting with Pompeo in Minsk, Lukashenko said that it was a truly friendly exchange of views.

The U.S. side also values Belarus for its friendly policy and suggestion to involve the U.S. in the settlement of the Donbas conflict, he said. "They've noticed, appreciated it. That's what Mike [Pompeo] told me. They saw the real Belarus. Not the one that our misfits brought their pipe dreams to and painted, but they saw that this is a normal country. And there are enough rights here, and no one's living is interfered with," the president said.

As reported, U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo paid a visit to Minsk on February 1.
