Roscosmos may send robots on missions to study other galaxies

MOSCOW. Feb 5 (Interfax) - Lunar construction projects, assistance to orbital stations and spaceship crews, and psychological support for cosmonauts are some of the tasks assigned to robotic systems in a presentation prepared for a meeting of the Robotics Section of the Roscosmos Scientific and Technical Council.

The presentation's first page was posted on Robot FEDOR's Twitter.

The document explains the relevance of using robotic systems in space exploration projects with the need to lower risks to the lives and health of cosmonauts, as well as to cut economic, temporal, and other costs.

Roscosmos is planning to use robots to build infrastructure and service orbital and planetary stations between manned missions.

Also, robots could be sent to other galaxies, Roscosmos said referring to "future robotic research missions outside the solar system."

Robots will assist cosmonauts in their chores at the lunar orbital station, as well as service lunar orbital and surface stations.

"Psychological and informational support to cosmonauts on long-term space missions" is another task robots may undertake in the future, Roscosmos said.

The Robotics Section of the Roscosmos Scientific and Technical Council will meet on Wednesday.
