LUCKNOW (India). Feb 6 (Interfax) - Russian specialists will repair certain systems of India's only aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, a representative of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) told Interfax.
"India has plans to begin a scheduled overhaul of the Vikramaditya aircraft carrier in 2020. Some of the ship's systems and equipment will be repaired by Russian specialists, while others will be repaired by Indian specialists with technical assistance from Russia," the representative said.
Russian specialists checked the ship for defects and gave overhaul recommendations to India in 2019, he said.
"The overhaul will include modernization of certain ship systems. India will determine the scope and timeframe of the work," the representative said.
INS Vikramaditya is the only aircraft carrier and the flagship of the Indian Navy. It is a profoundly modernized version of Russia's Admiral Gorshkov heavy aircraft carrier. The ship was rebuilt by the Sevmash plant in Severodvinsk and delivered to the Indian Navy on November 16, 2013.
The ship has a full displacement of 45,000 tonnes. It carries 14-16 MiG-29K planes, four MiG-29KUB planes, up to eight Ka-28 helicopters, a Ka-31 helicopter, and up to three HAL Dhruv helicopters.
The DefExpo international defense exhibition is taking place in India between February 5 and February 9. Rosoboronexport is the organizer of the Russian exposition.
