Russia requests Feb 18 UNSC meeting on Minsk Agreements for Donbas - Russian deputy envoy to UN tells Interfax

NEW YORK, UN. Feb 13 (Interfax) - Russia has asked the United Nations Security Council to convene a meeting on Ukraine on February 18, on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Minsk Agreements, Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky told Interfax.

"In light of the fifth anniversary of the Package of Measures on implementing the Minsk Agreements, which is marked today, on February 12, and also in connection with the fifth anniversary of the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2202 (February 17), Russia has requested a Security Council briefing," he said.

Such an event may be scheduled for the afternoon on February 18, Polyansky said.

Russia has requested an open meeting to be held in the presence of a representative from the UN Secretariat, who is expected to provide information on the progress of implementing the Package of Measures, he said.

UN Security Council Resolution 2202, which was adopted by consensus in 2015, approved the Package of Measures to implement the Minsk Agreements. The resolution made the Package of Measures part of international law and a binding document.
