MOSCOW. Feb 28 (Interfax) - A wreath sent on the behalf of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was laid at the coffin of Soviet Marshal Dmitry Yazov, whose funeral was held near Moscow on Thursday, the Embassy of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) told Interfax on Friday.
"A wreath sent on the behalf of our dear leader was laid at the coffin of the deceased on February 27. An inscription on the wreath's ribbons said, 'With deep grief for USSR Marshal Comrade D.T. Yazov,'" the embassy said.
Kim sent a telegram to the Yazov family, it said. "Although comrade Yazov's heart has stopped beating, his merits will forever remain in the memories of the people of Russia and of our people," the telegram said.
"Comrade Yazov treated the great leader of the Korean people, comrade Kim Jong-Il, with sincere deference and reverence and made a great contribution toward strengthening the feeling of friendship between the people of the two countries, the DPRK and Russia," it said.
Yazov was buried with military honors at a federal military memorial cemetery in Mytischi on February 27.
